When does a trend become a strategy? 🤔 When clients no longer have to work hard to see your value. We see this constantly. Men who have built serious careers. Leading teams, sitting in boardrooms, addressing clients, crowds and cameras. But their personal style and grooming have not moved on with their career. Their achievements say one thing. Their appearance says older, and unfinished. First impressions form in a fraction of a second. If your image has not kept pace with your career, you’re quietly making people work harder to see your value. 😅 A glow up is not a trend. It’s an alignment. Fit, grooming, colour, posture and presence, brought in line with who you already are. Not vanity. How strong is your sock game? 🧦 Match your trousers, or match your shoes. That is the whole rule. Anything else, especially novelty prints, undermines the outfit instead of adding to it. Cartoon socks are not personality. They are a lapse in taste, and in front of a client they get remembered for the wrong reasons. There is one exception: going sockless. But it only works with loafers, a short trouser break and warm weather. Get any of those wrong and it looks like a mistake, not a choice. The ‘Continuity’ wall behind me tells quite a story. Every photograph captures what @benshephardofficial has worn on Tipping Point Series 16. On the back, I record exactly what he wore, with every shirt and suit numbered, along with the pocket square. Surprisingly, everything looks very similar in a photograph and on screen. If I ever need to double back and repeat an outfit, I know exactly what was worn and how it was put together. No guesswork. No relying on memory. Good job! 😂 Just a keen eye for detail, a very well organised wall of photographs, outfits and 30+ years of TV experience. Getting a wardrobe right for one episode, you can blag. But keeping it consistent across 70 episodes takes expertise. Fit, fabric, colour choice, set design, lighting, the brief and the budget all shape my preparation.
